Message on Switzerland’s International Cooperation in 2013–2016

On 15 February 2012, the Federal Council transmitted to Parliament the Message on Switzerland’s International Cooperation in the period 2013–2016. For the first time, the Message describes in one document the tasks of humanitarian aid, development cooperation, economic and trade policy measures within the framework of development cooperation, and cooperation with the countries of Eastern Europe.

Guidelines and strategic objectives The principal objective of international cooperation remains poverty reduction.		Focus on global risks and fragile states Switzerland’s International Cooperation is focusing more strongly on global challenges.

Humanitarian Aid Relief operations and reconstruction, prevention and protection against disasters		Cooperation with developing countries Improving access to resources and services for poor population groups

Economic and trade policy measures Promotion of sustainable trade and providing stimulus for climate-friendly growth		Cooperation with the countries of Eastern Europe and the CIS Support for transition and reform processes in the states of Eastern Europe
